The ultimate guide to a smooth shave with a refill razor

If you choose to remove unwanted hair, it’s not always easy to get that super-soft feeling. Razor bumps, irritation and nicks can all get in the way of the perfect shave.

There’s no need to worry, though. If you’re looking for a simple way to keep your skin feeling soft while shaving, we’ve got your back (or at least your legs, armpits and bikini area).

The golden rules

Exfoliate your skin

Prepping your skin before shaving might feel like another task to schedule into an already busy day. Trust us, though. Exfoliating your skin before shaving removes excess dirt, oil and dead skin cells, giving you a smooth surface to shave over. It’ll also reduce the amount of ingrown hairs and irritation.

Don’t skip the shaving cream

Shaving cream is essential. Avoid using whatever you can find in the shower (like shower gel or shampoo). Shaving cream is specially formulated to take care of your skin during shaving and includes hydrating ingredients to keep your skin soft. Some (like ours) include cationic technology to lift the individual hairs, giving you a closer-than-ever shave.

Use a high-quality razor

The right razor blade is the key to a great shave. We recommend choosing a razor with multiple blades, as this will give you a closer and more efficient shave. Our razors are German-engineered and feature 6 titanium blades. That means they’re precision-made to ensure you get the best possible results when shaving.

Pat dry (don’t rub!)

It’s tempted to rub down with a towel when you get out of the shower or bath. To keep your skin feeling soft and smooth, pat down the areas you have shaved instead. Rubbing can cause extra irritation to your skin, which might be feeling sensitive after shaving. Gentle patting will help look after your skin while locking in essential moisture.

Hydrate and moisturise

Keeping your skin soft after shaving doesn’t stop when you get out of the shower. Remember to hydrate every time you shave using a high-quality moisturiser. While shaving removes unwanted hairs, it also strips your skin of moisture. This can lead to dryness, which affects how smooth your skin will feel. Moisturising after shaving will keep your skin silky-soft while reducing any sensitivity or irritation.

Rinse your blade well

Your razor is the most important tool for achieving silky skin. It’s important to look after it, as sharp blades will always get better results. Rinse your razor after you’ve finished shaving to remove any excess hair or products. Pat dry with a towel, then safely store away for next time. Our shower holders are a great way to keep your razor safe and accessible, and they come free when you subscribe to our shaving kits.

Change your blades regularly

While looking after your blades will keep them sharp for longer, there will come a time when you need to replace your blades. We recommend replacing them every week, or after 5 shaves. This might seem like a bit of a faff, but replacing your blades will reduce irritation and keep your skin feeling soft. Consider signing up to a razor subscription service (like ours!) to make sure you always have high-quality blades to hand when you need them most. Best of all? You can recycle your razor blades with us too.
